THE TRIP

Preparation

Life is better when you surf, so be prepared to leave SantaCruz Surf Maroc with a new addiction.

Having said that, surfing is a physically demanding sport, but at the same time one of the most fun ways to get in shape. In order to start surfing, you don't need any specific training, but like any other sports, the fitter you are, the easier it will be.

Below we outlined 5 different exercises, which you can incorporate in your gym routine. These exercises will not only make you a stronger surfer, they also make you look good in your shorts or bikini.

SQUAT

Ever seen a surfer standing completely straight on the board? No, so this is why we need to squat. The lower body will help you to stay in balance. The stronger the legs, the stronger you will be on your board. The squat will also help you to train your knees, ankles and hips, they all carry a heavy load when surfing.

PLANK

The plank exercise is a widely recognized method for developing core strength, which serves as a fundamental component of overall physical fitness. Similar to the benefits derived from performing squats, a well-developed core significantly contributes to improved balance and stability while on the board. It is advisable for individuals to begin with a duration of 20 to 30 seconds to establish a strong foundation.

SWIMMING

The average time on the board when riding a wave is about 6 seconds. Most of the time in the water is spend paddling. Paddling, just like swimming, requires strong shoulders, arms and back muscles. The stronger these muscles, the easier it will be to paddle to the "green waves". Another great advantage of swimming is the increase of stamina.

PUSH-UP

The key to a good pop-up is the push-up. If you don't want to miss any waves, start doing your push-ups. Start with a set of 3X10 and try to build this up to 50.

YOGA

Yoga and surfing go hand in hand. They both make you live in the moment. Especially for beginners yoga can help with the pop-up, as this movement feels quit unnatural. Yoga or stretches will improve your overall flexibility and it will help with the right positioning on the board.
